BMI calculator

Your BMI in just 1 minute

For adults, a BMI of 18.5 to 24.9 is a healthy weight. Enter your weight and height to see where you land on the World Health Organization chart, and what that really tells you.

What does the BMI chart show?

The chart for adults published by the World Health Organization
  1. Under 18.5Underweight
  2. 18.5 to 24.9Healthy weight range
  3. 25 to 29.9Overweight
  4. 30 and overObesity

BMI, which stands for body mass index, is your weight in kg divided by your height in metres squared.

Example. Say you are 1.65 m tall and your weight is 72. Multiply 1.65 by itself to get 2.72, and 72 divided by 2.72 gives a BMI of 26.4.

The catch. BMI mixes up fat and muscle, so it misleads for athletes, for people over 65 and in pregnancy.
